Meadowsweet

Spiraea ulmaria, Filipendula ulmaria
This is plant with square reddish stems and deeply serrated leaves and masses of creamy white blossoms, is a natural form of aspirin. The buds from the plant contain salicin, which is one form of the key ingredients in aspirin tablets. Once the salicin from the ingested herb enters the stomach, it breaks down to create salicylic acid, just as what would happen if one takes an aspirin tablet.
Centuries- old remedies suggested it to be very effective for headaches, arthritis and the flu, and it is still being used to relieve these conditions today. It is also an antipyretic, good for fevers. It can even be used as a remedy for heartburn, gastritis, peptic ulcer and urinary tract infection. A strong infusion of the herb can be used for cuts, scratches and abrasions.
A poultice of the fresh flowers is effective in relieving pain and inflammation of joints in rheumatism.
