Milk thistle
|
Silybum marianum
The seeds of this thorny, weedlike plant are noted for their long history in combating liver ailments, and helps to maintain normal liver function. The active substance in this herb, silymarin - according to medical researchers, not only protects the liver from damage due to toxins, or diseases, but can actually regenerate liver tissue that has already been damaged. Milk thistle can be taken on a regular basis to protect the liver and to help it to process harmful toxins. It is also used to treat irritability and the skin condition, psoriasis. The herb can also be used to help in promoting milk secretion and is considered safe to take during breastfeeding.
A very safe herb, if used correctly, and with very little side effects. But it might be a good idea to talk to a doctor before you take any milk thistle products!
