Ginseng (Siberian)
|
Eleutherococcus senticosus
While not a member of the Panex genus, this ginseng belongs to the larger Aralia family of ginseng. Siberian ginseng is considered to be a more neutral herb that is less stimulating than the Panex ginseng. It can be taken over a longer period of time without concern about its estrogenic and testosterone-inducing effects. This is a true adaptogen herb, as, if taken, it helps the body to adapt to stress and normalise all its functions; and it is helpful both in decreasing fatigue and coping with related problems such as poor memory and concentration. It also enhances the immune system, help protein synthesis and acts as an antioxidant. It has the ability to help us to adapt to time zone changes (jet lag) and also a higher altitudes.
It has been indicated in helping prevent heart disease, by reducing cholesterol level and blood pressure. It also helps with liver function and protection from enviromental and metabolic toxins. It is especially useful for athletes, to endurance and performance; and also to enable them to recover more rapidly after strenous exercise.
