Nettle
|
Urtica dioica
This herb contains high contents of minerals and vitamins. The seeds are high in essential fatty acids which can boost energy, while the extract from the roots can prevent the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which makes it a useful herb to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy.
The leaves and roots when taken, are said to help balance the body’s oil production. It is very helpful for the relief of allergies such as hay fever (only when the leaves are freeze dried) and eczema. The herb is also an excellent remedy for kidney and urinary tract complaints, such as stones , bleeding from urinary organs, inflammatory conditions, such as cystitis and nephritis.
Drinking nettle leaf tea will help cleanse the urinary passages as it promotes urination. It treats neuralgia, relieves pain, increases menstrual flow, kills and expels intestinal worms, diarrhea, dysentery, haemorrhoid, and edema. Nettle tea is good for reducing fever and cold symptoms and being an expectorant it clears coughs, chest congestion, asthma and pleursy. For chronic rheumatism the pain can be reduced by rubbing a bruised nettle leaf over the affected part.
For external application, boiled nettle leaves, will stop bleeding almost immediately. It is also a good old- fashioned remedy for backache.
Nettle tea is an excellent hair tonic, and it treats dandruff and promotes healthy hair.
