Ruscus aculeatus
This herb is closely related to the asparasgus family. Ancient Greek physicians used it as a laxative and a diuretic. In the 1950s, French researchers isolated two chemicals from the rhizomes of this plant, that appeared to have therapeutic properties in that they cause the narrowing of blood vessels and help in treating inflammation.
It is recommended for the treatment of haemorrhoid. It may help to treat chronic phlebopathy, (a condition where there is venious insuffficiency, resulting in the lower limbs being swollen, itching, having tingling, cramping and a feeling of heaviness.) The herb is more effective , if it's being used in combination with vitamin C
Caution has to be taken if using this herb, as it may raise blood pressure, (since it has the effect in constricting blood vessels), and may increase the incidence of strokes and heart attacks. A trained health profesional has to be consulted before using this herb.
