Guarana
|
Paullinia officinalis
This woody vine, native to the Amazon basin jungles is considered a stimulant thermogenic herb. A cup of beverage made from this herb is equal to three times more caffeine than a cup of coffee. It helps to raise metabolism and assist fat burning. This herb is normally included in formulas that aid in slimming and other health diet supplement. This is a tonic herb, and is sometimes useful in relieving exhaustion and depression, and prevent drowsiness, and it can also be used to combat fatigue in the short-term.
Guarana, being a stimulant, may have the ability to keep the blood cells circulating, when they have a tendency to clump together and trigger a heart attack. This has been shown by a laboratory study, conducted in the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, where it was found that guarana can reduce the clumping of red blood cells, indicating that there may be a possibilty of it being beneficial as a heart protector.
Guarana is suitable for everyday use as it does not have any side effects often associated with stimulant, but overdosing on this herb may give you the jitters!
