It has a laxative effect, thus it is often used to treat constipation. Chickweed is healing and soothing and can treat all forms of internal inflammation such as bronchitis, pleurisy, coughs, colds, hoarseness of voice, rheumatism, inflammation of the intestinal system and any lung infections.

Chickweeds ointment is useful for the treatment of bruises, chilblains, heat rashes, boils, scalds and burns, inflammed or sore eyes, erysipelas, tumours, haemorrhoid, certain forms of cancer mouth and throat ulceration, all kinds of wound swellings and inflammation. For better results, anyone with sores and scabs all over the body should have a bath made up of chickweed herb, and then used the salve for external application.

It is also good for burning and itching genitals. By taking chickweed tea, internally, it can be used as an antidote in blood posioning. Chickweed tea is good for slimming. A chickweed lotion helps to clear and refine the skin if applied morning and evening daily.
