|
Carum carvi
This is a highly aromatic biennial herb used in the kitchen as a culinary spice as well as medicinally If used herbally, it promotes energy circulation, and has an effect on the stomach and kidneys. It is a good remedy for indigestion and flatulence. Used together with ginger and cinnamon it can treat vomiting and hiccupping, and relieve coughs
Caraway water can be used as a mild remedy for children with upset stomach. An effective mouthwash and gargle is made from a decoction of the seeds, to soothe a sore throat. As an effective treatment for earache, a poultice, made up of the crushed seeds, is applied on the affected area.
Caraway seeds have some disinfectant properties. A soap made from the herb is useful as a skin cleanser to clear the skin of any blemishes and spots.
